2. Ah Yat Seafood

Today i got go explore back to my heritage with my family. i usually have this tradition with my family that every Sunday we must go out, eat Chinese food and talk about our lives specifically within that week. My dad took us to this restaurant near Plaza Senayan called Ah yat seafood( not sure whether it is the correct one) in the Kompleks Gelora Senayan. Its adjoined to a golf driving range which is quite funny in my opinion but in a way strategically smart. I start eating my all time favorite Chinese food, called Chong sam, its like this Char siu meat that is wrapped in flour and they created this white wrapping that is poured in their local soy sauce. What i love most about the food is that the texture is very soft that goes very well with the combination of the meat. The meat can be picked, i choose prawns and chicken, either way its the matter of your preference but seriously i think "chong sam" is one of those good Chinese meal that you ought to try. I also tried various dumplings like Hakkau, Siomay and steam buns. They all taste pretty much good, these three foods are the most common Chinese cuisines that we all love particulary when you eat it with your family. I like the steam buns the most because the flour that had been fermented with yeast has grown and created this soft texture on the outside filled with the juicy char siu meat. The Hakkau had a feather like skin which is soft and usually is filled with prawns inside. The siomay is the one that tasted most like eating a chicken, its juicy yet tender. Overall i like dumplings because since i was small i eat these kind of cuisines so i am pretty much used to it. My dad also ordered duck because he knows that i am a fan of it. He ordered the broth duck with tofu, egg and this Chinese sweet sauce, i love duck meat seriously its less heavier than beef but juicier than chicken. The taste is very refreshing and you can never get sick from eating it. I also ate the tongue of the duck, maybe for some of you this is disgusting but really its good! You should give it a courage and just try it once. This is the thing with Chinese cuisine, they served a large amount of portion so i cannot really mentioned all of it, i am just gonna high light the ones that i think are scrumptious. I think i also had a Lumpia and Jiaozi which are like pretty much good because the combination of crunchy outside texture with the meat( The one that i had was prawn) is perfect and glazed with mayonnaise. The taste was divine! Of course i still ate some vegetables, i had what was called as baby kailan with this sticky sauce that tasted pretty good. To sum up, the Chinese cuisine may occasionally serve a large proportion of food with unusual body parts but hey whats a food travel without tasting the unknown taste that may turn to be after all good right? Yes i ended up pretty good because the price wasn't so bad considering the amount of food that i ate. Or at least that was what my Dad told me. Next stop more more Indonesian Local food, i gotta find some ones! Wish me luck!

1. Boka Buka

For my first destination for my personal project this summer i went to this small French restaurant near my house called Boka Buka. The first impression that i got from the restaurant was that it had this home atmosphere, the lightning was dim which was perfect for a candle romantic dinner, Hanafi wallpapers that gives the art world from the country and wine cellar with a bar that gave this French impression and jazzy mood. I choose the onion soup, obviously the escargot because whats is a French food without trying an escargot right? The onion soup was good, as expected, the taste was sour sweet which is particularly my kind of food, the escargot has several options, i had to choose whether or not it was served with mushroom flavor or the classic one, i choose the classic escargot because i am a fan of their combination with garlic. For those of you think that the delicacy of snails are disgusting, you should be more open minded because the snail is a source for rich proteins, trust me just try it once and maybe what you seem to understand before may be wrong and new taste will unravel your breath.  of And then for the main course the waiter suggested that i should try their famous grilled steak with this cream cheese sauce called bearnaise that was so good, i mean really the cream was light flavored with no sort of nauseousness and it feels like you can eat it as much as you want, served with fried potatoes that goes so well with the beef that was cooked medium well which if you are a fan of soft tender meat, medium well it is. The meat was juicy and tender and with the combination of the sauce, makes it ever so yummier. My sister had the duck steak and from what she told me it was not as good as the thought it would be, the size of the meat is too little and the taste is just mediocre. For the dessert i wanted to try their specialty but since it was "out of stock" which was very disappointing so i tried their second best which was called Apple Crumble. It was sweet, i love apple pie since the beginning, what can i say those out there? The crepe provides the crusty, crunchy, savory yet sweet flavor that i love and combined with the sweet vanilla ice cream it was a bliss for all dessert lovers out there. Well to sum up, i think this restaurant is ought to try because of its reasonable price with a quite good taste provided. The service was homey feeling, the waiter and waitress explained very well and they seem to know what they are talking about, what is surprisingly cute is the washroom and you guys should check it out for your selves. Boka Buka has two stores now, one across each other, the place that i went was the new one, both are the same just different location right across each other. Well the first experience of my personal project so far is a success, i hope this summer i will get to enjoy scrumptious foods, if you want to know the address just message this blog and i will surely reply back. Pictures will be posted in the next blog. Next stop Chinese food, can't wait!

PERSONAL PROJECT SUMMER 2010

This summer, the intention of this blog will be diverted because i want to focus on my personal project for this summer. You see, i live in a hometown in Indonesia called Jakarta and this summer will be the last summer i get to spend because i will go to America to pursue my education there so as a tribute to my hometown, my personal project is to travel around Jakarta and search all of the good food in there, both local and international. I chose food because well i love them and enjoying good food isn't really such a bad idea to do this summer.

Expectations is your worst enemy. Changing yourself to be accepted in the real world may make you to survive and overcome social norms, but you will lose identity of who you really are, truly, for great needs comes great sacrifices in order for us to achieve what we want.

Forgive Me My First Love by surrealeye

Forgiveness isn't something easy to do. Its not about saying "I'm sorry" or any phrase expressing your guilt. Its that part that admitting to the world that you are wrong, its where you realized that for a moment there you're not always right, where you are not perfect and able to tell others that you are wrong. Honestly, not a lot of people possess this quality, whenever we do a mistake, we do not always express it entirely in words but through our actions, the part where we are able to accept our flaws is the time when we do grow up. So i hope that you do have these qualities, for that in order for us mankind to continue evolving in a better generation.

The other day, i saw a sunflower, it wasn't as beautiful as this, but a sunflower is a sunflower. I never told anyone that this is my favorite flower, but maybe one day i will tell you, and when i do, it will be the day when i get to see you every morning

Photography by Kevin Carter

This image depicts everything i want to say about our world. This shocking photo depicts a starving Sudanese child being stalked by a patient vulture. It is a horrific picture that gave people a true look at the dire condition in Sub-Saharan Africa. The photographer won a Pulitzer work from this photo, but let me ask you readers, the setting up for this shot was "20 minutes", really i mean where is the kindness left in the world if the photographer choose fame and reputation instead helping a poor starving child?

Which one hurts more, when someone lies to you or hypocrites who talks behind your back?

Life 101 #16

You know as a child, you see the goodness in every people no matter how bad they may seem to be, we always choose to see what are their best qualities. But then as we grow up, we lose those quality. I came to an understanding that it was really one of our best traits and somehow i realize like many others who feels this when they grow up that we lose our innocence. Maybe because of my upbringing and such that my parents never really teach me these stuff but its important to not let it go you know?Because once you know what the world is really like our mind is corrupted by responsibilities and obligations that we must fulfill our self in order to survive in the world. Things such as greed and power will eventually seize our innocence taking the thought of "goodness" that we all once used to have. Tell me, by realizing this is it too late for me too now? Have i been sucked into the world's sense of responsibility? Does this mean...i've grown up?

Entry 17

Where is that line between friend ship and love? Sometimes you know when you have that perfect friend, one who would stand by you during your darkest moment of your life, one who would accompany you doing the small insignificant day to day chores or one will be there no matter how bad it went wrong in your life. Its a nice feeling you know, that there is someone, another person that sees you that way. But then, where is the point you start seeing that as something different?

One day, you used to see that person as just your friend, one you know that you always feel ease with, and not even being awkward even at when there is no conversation at all. But then, what if the next day, you begin to feel something different, something that you have never felt before, that sudden rush and ache at the same time when you see that person. Tell me, where is that line?

Does fairy tale exists? I always thought as a child there is a "happily ever after". I still do, to some extent. Its nice not always be cynical or pessimistic all the time. I mean, sure we have to be prepared for the worst which is why sometimes i expect the worst in order to not have false hope. But, another part of me wants to believe in the goodness of everything and not see the worst, its nice to be optimistic about things because you know that there is this "blissful" feeling in you that you just want to hang on, at least not letting it go now.

Entry 16

Whenever we try to say to our selves that "its going to be okay" or "Do not mind what they said" but it actually really does you know? The part where they might talk behind your back or the words they throw to you, it does affect you in some way or another. It might change a bit of who we are, whether we might show it both explicitly or implicitly. I knew recently that by changing who you are will not really affect anything really, you might get approval of others, but at the end i always felt that something was missing, something that was not there. Even though we might smile to avoid shame and not wanting them to eat you up, sometimes just a simple word can really affect your day.

Letting go by pinkparis1233

As pessimistic as it sounds like, in some part of your life, we need to be able to let go. Maybe you cannot because of the good memories that makes us hard to let go. That small things that they create, when we see it singularly, it may be just another day but when we see it as whole, that small things that your loved ones do makes it so much harder to let go because it was already as good as it can get. As you read this, maybe it is only through the logical aspect but what about the psychological aspect? I cannot deny that your feelings might overcome the "logic", but in the long run all you will have is pain and suffering right? I just hate to see someone with a bright potential future wasting them selves just because they cannot let go. Letting go might be the easy part, its what's ahead is the one that is difficult. But remember, when we try to degrade our self and wish to stop time, there are those other people who suffers because of what we are doing, just remember that there are still other people that may make your life still worth while.

deception by rtkluge

In this world when life can be so tough, we must understand that beneath that perfect surface, there should be a hidden agenda, a flaw. Is there still that part of time where we can still believe that there is some good part in any one of us? I need to recount the days of believing that there is still "hope" beneath the deception that has filled our world now. Can i turn time and live in that part of time where the good overcomes the bad? even though technology has not exist, at least i can sleep every night with that feeling of bliss and serene, knowing that man kind still is there. Tell me, can our time do that again?

11 memory by lostwriter1987

I've been thinking and no matter what anyone says, i cannot bear the thought of the idea that we should have a "limit" to the capacity of our memories. No matter good or bad, we should keep those memories, i know that maybe some of your memories are the bad ones, it could be so bad that you just want to press the word "delete" like the one in your keyboard so that somehow you can erase it completely but there should be some good memories that we all want to keep. Even with the bad memories, i still want to keep mine, because without those memories, i will not not be like what i am now, a decent person. We have these memories because it reminds us of who we really are and what we could be, a better person.

Friends by CookieDreamShoes

Who says that being friends means that you need to know all the traits of the other person. That is not the way i see it, sure a friend can be defined through the amount of time we spend with each other. But that is just in our nature, you know? The part where we need to "connect" and "bond" with others. Even if we did spend a whole year with each other, every single day, but at the end of the day all you did was repeating that same act again and again does not mean you know who they really are. The way i see it is that good friends are those who will give time to spend with you but not knowing your true colors because they cannot see it deep enough, great friends however does not see you everyday but still somehow stick with you during the worst days of your lives and sees through your flaws.

You just never know who might fall for you, it might just be the boy/girl next door, it might be your best friend, it might be someone you never thought could be that person or it could be your child hood friend... When one see life in a linear line, wouldn't it be such a tedious life? Maybe in the past when men and women still have traditional values, but now with modernization, shouldn't we see something with more than one perspective? True, without moral and religious values, we cannot develop the foundation of our characters, but at this time, we should be able not to justify our actions solely based on traditional values but be able to see more than one perspective. Life simply cannot be understood through just one linear line.
